FAQs

Where do you teach?

I teach from my home studio in South Wales, situated in Beddau which has easy access to Llantrisant, Pontypridd, Pontyclun, Miskin, Llanharan, Creigiau, Church Village, Llantwit Fardre and Tonteg. I offer mobile lessons occasionally, depending on availability. These are priced slightly higher than lessons at my home studio.
Additionally, I offer Skype and Facetime lessons if you aren't located in South Wales.

Do I need to have a music background to start learning?

No, I teach beginners, right through to advanced players of all ages. I normally start teaching children from age 8. You don't need to play an instrument already to start learning.

What equipment do I need?

If you are having instrumental lessons it is recommended that you have your own i.e. Guitar, ukulele etc. and an amp/speaker system for electric guitar, music theory and other lessons (ask for more details). However, if you would like to try without buying for the first few lessons, you can borrow mine during lesson time. For music production lessons, I recommend having your own laptop or desktop computer.

Do you teach group lessons?

Yes. Quite often group lessons can be a great way of learning with friends and/or family. Parent and child lessons are normally quite popular - being taught together can benefit practice sessions at home e.g. if a child is stuck on a particular chord, or can't remember how to read a chart, the parent is there to aid their practice outside of lesson time. I recommend a maximum of 3 for a group lesson.

What days and times are you available?

I am available weekdays 9am-9pm. All times are subject to availability.

How much do lessons cost?

60 minutes - £23
30 minutes - £13

Are there any other fees I should be aware of?

There is a cancellation fee -

If the student cancels less than 24 hours before the commencement of the next lesson, the full lesson price is due payable.

Students that are genuinely ill are excused beyond the 24 hour limit, however if this becomes an occurrence, the student will have to pay the full lesson fee.

How often can I have lessons?

Most of my students have weekly lessons for an hour and this slot is saved for your lesson only. If you need urgent assistance e.g. grade exam or coursework deadline, I can fit you in as long as I have additional availability.

Are there specific teaching styles you use?

All students are different so therefore, all of my lessons are tailored specifically to each person.

Do you teach grades?

Yes. I take students through guitar grades and ukulele grades right up to Grade 8 if they wish. The exam board I use is RGT - you can find out more at http://www.rgt.org/

I have a 100% pass record.

Can I sit in on my child's lesson(s)?

Absolutely. It is entirely up to you if you would like to watch. However, I politely ask that you keep interference to a minimum as distractions do not help the student.

What are artist development lessons?

If you are an aspiring singer-songwriter, or you are interested in becoming an artist then this could well be for you. These lessons include songwriting and lyrical techniques, marketing and branding, social media, live performance strategies, music theory, music production, music industry, royalties and distribution & more.

Are there any opportunities to perform live?

Yes. I will notify all students when opportunities arise.

Are you DBS checked?

Yes I am, if you would like to see a copy of my certificate I can bring it along to the first lesson. It is updated every year.
